You are a single event in this world that will never happen again.
Nostalgic. I spent many times on that bench holding work, crying, sleeping, reading and talking to Don. This is a special space to me and I treasure it always.

Hey Jamie Kelman! I’m interested in seeing more of your work but “Threshold” isn’t on your website yet. Any notice of when it will be up? Very excited for the VCU opening, hope it goes well!

Woman Photographs Herself Receiving Strange Looks in Public

“I now reverse the gaze and record their reactions to me while I perform mundane tasks in public spaces. I seek out spaces that are visually interesting and geographically diverse. I try to place myself in compositions that contain feminine icons or advertisements. Otherwise, I position myself and the camera in a pool of people…and wait.

The images capture the gazer in a microsecond moment where they, for unknowable reasons, have a look on their face that questions my presence. Whether they are questioning my position in front of the lens or questioning my body size, the gazer appears to be visually troubled that I am in front of them.”

Thought this was actually really cool and I’d share it with you guys! Takes a lot to get up there and do something like this. Love it!

Hey guys guess what!? I passed my Advancement to Candidacy! It only took all of my strength and hard work for this whole semester. I had to give a 15 minute presentation on my work, answering anything my faculty and peers throw at me for 25 minutes after and having a gallery instillation for that week. Here is the install up in Gallery 3 at San Jose State University. It was a great turn out on our reception and I sailed right through it! My committee members called me yesterday to let me know of my passing and I am so excited to be done with this step. Now onto the thesis!

Here is my darling Eliana #gettinit. She created photo polymer plates of her instagram photos and created the body of work #weouthere. Each piece is on beautiful paper with deckled edges and then a typewriter was used to put hashtags on some of the images with her themes of instagram speak, Latina culture and feminism. This work is hanging in the galleries right now on campus for our Advancement to Candidacy shows. Congrats baby, it looks great. #loveyou

I will always remember the first time I saw Laura Aguilar’s work.
